The Hungarian Cake Of The Year is a contest held on the national holiday of the 20th of August, which celebrates the founding of the Hungarian state. Thus, the title of the work refers to a national contest and event.

The name of the Cake of the Year become Orange Magic. It refers to the Hungarian political situation: orange is the colour of the party, Fidesz and what happens around is a conjuring the democracy away. Orange Magic is an existing type of cake too.

This cake was my fictive diploma work at my fictive final exam. To play the fictive examination committee, I invited journalists working for independent Hungarian media outlets.

The exam was presented as a real thesis examination, with an audience and without breaks. During the performance, I answered the committee’s questions by cutting a cake without saying a word.

As per to the agreement reached with the journalists, I met with them in August 2019, and gave them a slice from this cake for their participation.

Az újságtorta címe és formája szerint egy desszert, azonban egy ehetetlen étel. Szimbolikusan persze ehető, hiszen nap mint nap fogyasztjuk a kormányközeli médiumok torzított híreit. Étel és tárgy között oszcilláló mivolta a valóság paralel-valóság kettősséget idézi. Egy komoly geg, kordokumentum.
